Christopher Columbus Kraft Jr. (February 28, 1924 – July 22, 2019) was an American aerospace engineer and NASA director known for establishing the agency's mission control center. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1944 and joined NASA in 1958, where he became the first flight director and oversaw key missions, including America's first manned spaceflight. Kraft later managed the crewed spacecraft center until his retirement in 1982. He served as a consultant and led a committee to improve NASA's Space Shuttle program. His autobiography was published in 2001, and a control center building is named in his honor.
