Chuni Lal was a soldier in the 8th Battalion of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry. He was born in Vadharba and hailed from Gandhari Paddar, residing in the Bhara village of Doda district, Jammu. Awarded the Vir Chakra and the Sena Medal (Gallantry), he led an operation in the Kupwara sector of Kashmir on June 24, 2007, where he successfully eliminated terrorists attempting to infiltrate Indian territory across the Line of Control. For his bravery and sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry award.
