Known as a 'martyr of charity,' she contracted the Ebola virus while caring for her patients. Ghilardi passed away on May 6, 1995, in Kikwit, Zaire. In recognition of her dedication, she was declared venerable by Pope Francis in 2021 and is commemorated on the anniversary of her death.
