Claude Lyneis is an American physicist born on April 17, 1943, in Santa Monica, California, specializing in accelerator physics and Electron Cyclotron Resonance ion sources (ECR sources). He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Washington in 1965 and obtained his Ph.D. at Stanford University in 1974. Lyneis has contributed significantly to the development of ECR ion sources for heavy ion accelerators, and he has held leadership roles at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, including Deputy Director for Nuclear Physics and Senior Physicist. He was awarded the Tom W. Bonner Prize in 2001.
