Claude R. McGaughey III, known as Shug, is a prominent American Hall of Fame thoroughbred horse trainer born on January 6, 1951. He began his training career in 1979 and has achieved over 240 graded stakes wins. His significant accomplishments include training the 1989 Belmont Stakes winner Easy Goer and the 2013 Kentucky Derby winner Orb. McGaughey has won multiple prestigious races, including three Jockey Club Gold Cups and four Travers Stakes, and was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2004.
