Claus Carstensen is a Danish painter and visual artist born on June 19, 1957, in Sønderborg. He served as a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1993 to 2002. Carstensen was part of the 'young wilds' movement in the early 1980s, known for revitalizing painting after the dominance of conceptual art. He has exhibited in Denmark and abroad, curated several exhibitions, including 'The Map is Not the Territory' at Esbjerg Kunstmuseum in 2008, and received the Eckersberg Medal in 2004 and a grant from Ole Haslund's Artists' Fund in 2013.
