Claus Philipp Maria Schenk, Graf von Stauffenberg (15 November 1907 - 21 July 1944) was a German army officer and a count, holding a noble hereditary title. He participated in various military campaigns during World War II, including the invasion of Poland, the German incursion into the Soviet Union, and the Tunisian campaign. Stauffenberg was a central figure in the failed July 20, 1944, plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler and remove the Nazi party from power. He was executed shortly after the failed attempt, known as Operation Valkyrie, due to his involvement in the German Resistance movement within the Wehrmacht.
