He began his career at the United Press agency and later joined the NTS, where he became the first editor of the NTS Journaal. He presented the first news bulletin on October 3, 1957, and remained until 1962. Van Hoewijk preferred anonymity and rarely appeared on special broadcasts. He passed away on February 6, 2007, at the age of 84.
