Col Austen was an Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn and Richmond in the VFL, debuting in 1941. He served as a signalman during WWII and tied for the 1949 Brownlow Medal but was awarded it retrospectively in 1989. Austen was cleared to Richmond in 1950 after a club split. He coached Richmond Seconds and led them to premiership victories, before moving to Box Hill as Captain/Coach. He became a Life Member of Richmond and had trophies named in his honor. He passed away in 1995.
