Colin Pitchfork (born March 23, 1960) is a British convicted of murder and rape. He was the first person convicted of murder based on DNA profiling evidence and the first to be captured as a result of mass DNA screening. Pitchfork raped and killed two girls in Leicestershire: Linda Mann in Narborough on November 21, 1983, and Dawn Ashworth in Enderby on July 31, 1986. He was arrested on September 19, 1987, and sentenced to life imprisonment on January 22, 1988, after confessing to both crimes.
