She is notably the most widely read Spanish author after Miguel de Cervantes and holds a record in the 1994 Guinness Book of Records as the best-selling author in the Spanish language. The only daughter in a family of five, her nickname, Socorrín, transformed into the pseudonym Corín. After the Spanish Civil War, her family moved to Cádiz, where she pursued her education.
