He played a pivotal role in human exploration of the solar system and managed the Joint Strike Fighter Program. He is known for overseeing the F-35 Lightning II development. Additionally, Steidle commanded the Navy's F/A-18 program and contributed significantly to naval aviation's production research and foreign military sales.
