Cristian Țopescu was a Romanian sports commentator, journalist, and politician, born in Bucharest on March 26, 1937. He was the father of television presenter Cristina Țopescu. Țopescu was promoted to the rank of brigadier general by a decree from President Traian Băsescu on October 25, 2007. He was elected senator of Bucharest as a member of the National Liberal Party after the parliamentary elections on November 30, 2008, alongside Crin Antonescu. He passed away on May 15, 2018, also in Bucharest.
