Her approach to eco-social complexity differs from Nancy Krieger's ecological model. In her 2001 article, she introduced the concept of 'eco-social health,' arguing that human activities increasingly alter ecosystems, facilitating the emergence of diseases. She is known for her innovative adjustments in social epidemiology, addressing health system reforms in Brazil, health transition research, ecological changes, and complex systems.
