Curtis W. Casewit was a German-American writer born on March 21, 1922, in Mannheim. He studied languages in Florence and served in the French army during World War II, working as a translator for the British army. After moving to the U.S. in 1948, he became a journalist and literature critic, winning the Edgar Award in 1957. He authored numerous non-fiction works, especially on mountaineering and travel, and wrote a science fiction novel, The Peacemakers. He passed away on March 2, 2002, in Denver, Colorado.
