D. Elden Beck was an influential professor of zoology and entomology at Brigham Young University, where he chaired the department starting in 1962. Previously, he led the Biology Department at Dixie Junior College. Beck served in the U.S. Army Medical Department during World War II and contributed to mosquito control programs locally and globally with the World Health Organization. His research resulted in a new genus and five new species and he published photographs in magazines as well as created collections in museums. He passed away in 1967.
