He held several prominent positions including Assistant Director at the NSO State House Annex and Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 7 in Abuja. Aliyu received multiple awards for his contributions to crime prevention and policing. He was honored as the best Commissioner of Police by the Inspector General and was known by the title Sardaunan Ruma in his hometown.
