He faced a challenging childhood due to familial abuse but pursued a career in law enforcement and later as a forest ranger. His notable work, 'The Sage Hunter', published in 1998, garnered critical acclaim, winning the Wu Yung-fu Literature Prize in 2000 and was adapted into a film. Sakinu is dedicated to preserving Paiwan culture, having founded a hunter school to teach traditional skills to the youth.
