Damayanti Beshra is a renowned Santali writer and tribal researcher born on February 18, 1962. She is particularly known for her contributions to Santali literature. In 2009, she received the Sahitya Akademi Award for her literary work. She published the first magazine in the Santali language, 'Karma Dar', and in 1994, became the first Santali woman writer to publish a poetry collection titled 'Jibi Jharna'. In 2020, she was honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, for her significant contributions to Santali literature.
