Damian, born Petro Pyłypowycz Zamarajew on January 29, 1931, in Wasiljewka, is a retired bishop of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate. He graduated from a railway school in Voronezh in 1950 and an aeronautical technical school in Saransk in 1953. In 1959, he completed seminary in Odessa. Ordained as a deacon and later as a priest, he served various parishes and became bishop of Kherson and Taurida in 1997. He became an archbishop in 2004 and retired in 2018.
