He played a significant role during the coalition response to the Islamic State incursions in Iraq as the Joint Force Land Component Commander-Iraq. He was previously the deputy commanding general of operations for ARCENT and commanded the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss. His career also included serving as Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations & Training at TRADOC and leading the National Training Center at Fort Irwin.
