Abubakar Dangiwa Umar is a Nigerian politician and former military officer born on September 21, 1949. He served as the governor of Kaduna State from August 1985 to June 1988 during General Ibrahim Babangida's military regime. After retiring from the army in 1993, Umar emerged as a social critic and founded the Movement for Unity and Progress, a political party aimed at promoting unity and progress in Nigeria.
