Daniel Bernhard Abel is a retired vice admiral of the United States Coast Guard, born on May 11, 1961, in Dayton, Ohio. He served as Deputy Commandant for Operations from June 2018 to June 2020 and previously held the position of Director of Operations for the United States Southern Command. Abel graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in 1983 with a B.S. in civil engineering and later earned an MBA from William & Mary in 1994, and an M.S. in national security strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 2005.
