Daniel Mainwaring was an American novelist and Hollywood screenwriter, born on July 22, 1902, in Oakland. He is known for using the pseudonym Geoffrey Homes. His novels were adapted into films, which led to his collaboration with studios starting in 1942. After publishing 'Build My Gallows High' in 1946, he focused exclusively on screenwriting. His notable works include scripts for 'Out of the Past' (1947), 'The Big Steal' (1949), 'The Lawless' (1950), and others. Though affiliated with leftist ideologies, he avoided being blacklisted during the anti-communist period in Hollywood.
