José Daniel Ortega Saavedra is a Nicaraguan politician who has been serving as the president of Nicaragua since 2007. He was previously the leader of Nicaragua from 1979 to 1990, first as coordinator of the Junta of National Reconstruction and then as president. A prominent leader in the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), he has implemented significant governmental policies. In November 2021, Ortega was re-elected for a fourth five-year term, receiving 75% of the votes according to the first partial official results released by the Supreme Electoral Council.
