Taylor's work included developing fire management programs in national parks and researching the effects of feral pigs on Hawaiian rainforests. He was a member of organizations like Amnesty International, the Sierra Club, and the WWF. He retired in 1996 but continued his nature protection activities in Asia, Africa, and Hawaii.
