Daniel Veis is a Czech cellist born on April 28, 1954, in Prague. He studied cello with Natalya Shakhovskaya at the Moscow State Conservatory after attending the local music academy. Veis gained recognition by winning the cello section of the Prague Spring International Music Competition in 1976 and placing second in the Tchaikovsky International Competition in 1978. He taught at the Teplice Conservatory from 1982 to 1986 and has been a professor at the Academy of Art in Prague since 1996.
