Castner worked as a youth educator and trainer, later teaching philosophy at an art college in Braunschweig. She moved to Vienna, where she contributed to Austrian radio and other media. Since 1993, she has engaged in economic consulting, human development, and sports training. Castner has published three fictional works since 1985 and participated in the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize in 1986.
