Daron Vartan Malakian is an Armenian-American guitarist and backing vocalist, best known as a member of the metal band System of a Down. Born on July 18, 1975, in Los Angeles, he is of Armenian descent, like the other members of the band, although he is the only one born in the United States. His guitar skills have earned him recognition, as he ranks 30th on Guitar World's list of the '100 Greatest Metal Guitarists of All Time.'
