David James Bishop, born on September 13, 1948, is a former New Zealand international rugby union referee. He officiated 26 international matches from 1986 to 1995, including matches at the first three Rugby World Cup tournaments. Born in Christchurch, he was educated at Geraldine High School and married Alison Zanders in 1979, with whom he has two children. In recognition of his contributions, Bishop was awarded the New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal.
