David Douglas Diehl was an American football player born on September 30, 1918. He played college football at Michigan State College and went on to play professionally in the NFL for the Detroit Lions in two separate periods, from 1939 to 1940 and again from 1944 to 1945. Diehl had a notable season in 1944, ranking third in the NFL with 426 receiving yards and boasting a league-leading average of 23.7 yards per reception. He also served as an ends coach for the Michigan State Spartans in 1941.
