He was known for his piano and vocal skills, heavily influenced by Fats Domino, which earned him his nickname. Starting to play piano at age five, Williams gained professional experience in local clubs by 1940. His notable works include recordings for Specialty Records and a debut LP in 1974. Throughout his career, he collaborated with various jazz bands and participated in numerous recording sessions until his last performances in 1981, blending rhythm and blues with New Orleans jazz.
