David John Aldous is a mathematician known for his work in probability theory and its applications, particularly in topics such as exchangeability, weak convergence, Markov chains with mixing times, continuous random trees, and random compactifications. He attended St John's College, Cambridge, in 1970 and earned his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1977 under Professor Garlring. Since 1979, he has been on the faculty at the University of California, Berkeley. Aldous has received several awards including the Royal Society Fellowship and the Loeve Prize.
