He is the president of Konishi Art Co., Ltd., and serves as the representative director of the Japan Association for the Preservation of Religious Structures. Atkinson is also a Kyoto International Tourism Ambassador, special advisor to Nijo Castle, and an advisor to the State Guest House. He has a background as a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs and previously held a position as an outside director at Mitsui Securities. He is an expert in Japan's tourism policy, cultural heritage policy, and economic policy.
