David James Baxter was a prominent Australian rules footballer who played for the Richmond Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) from 1934 to 1936. Beyond his sports career, he had a military service as part of the Australian Army in the Volunteer Defence Corps during World War II. His legacy continued through his son, David Junior, who was part of the Tigers' under-19s premiership team in 1973, and his brother-in-law, Leo Merrett, a member of the 1943 senior premiership team.
