Sir David Stuart Beattie was a New Zealand judge, born in Australia. He served as a judge on the Supreme Court of New Zealand from 1969 to 1980, and was the 14th Governor-General of New Zealand from 1980 to 1985. He was involved in the 1984 constitutional crisis, which led him to dismiss Prime Minister Robert Muldoon. He was also a passionate supporter of sports, serving as President of the New Zealand Olympic Committee for eleven years, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation in 1989, and was elected President of the Sport Foundation twice. He received the Olympic Order for his contributions to sports.
