His notable victory came in the 2006 Volta a Catalunya, where he triumphed over Santiago Botero by a mere two seconds. Despite facing numerous injuries and health issues, including surgeries, Cañada made significant contributions to cycling. He retired in 2010 after battling cancer. Tragically, he passed away on May 28, 2016, during a cycling event.
