David Cecil Candler was a Zimbabwean first-class cricketer, mathematician, educator, and clergyman born in Bulawayo in 1924. He studied at the University of Cape Town and later at Keble College, University of Oxford, where he played first-class cricket. After graduating, he became a senior mathematics lecturer in Southern Rhodesia, was ordained as a priest, and took roles in various educational institutions. He emigrated to the UK in the 1980s, working as a rector until retirement. Candler passed away in April 2008, leaving a legacy in education and sports.
