David D. McKiernan is a retired four-star general of the U.S. Army, born on December 11, 1950, in Atlanta, Georgia. He served as the commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan and U.S. forces in Afghanistan from October 6, 2008, to June 15, 2009. Prior to this, he held various leadership positions, including commander of U.S. Army Europe and the Seventh Army. McKiernan led coalition ground forces during the 2003 invasion of Iraq and played a significant role in military operations in the region.
