David L. DeMets is a prominent American biostatistician, recognized for his contributions to the field. He earned his PhD in biostatistics from the University of Minnesota in 1970, followed by postdoctoral research at the National Institutes of Health. In 1972, he joined the faculty at University of Wisconsin–Madison, later becoming the Max Halperin Professor of Biostatistics. DeMets received numerous accolades, including fellowships from the American Statistical Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and was elected to the Institute of Medicine in 2013.
