David E. Muller (November 2, 1924 - April 27, 2008) was an American mathematician and computer scientist. He served as a professor of mathematics and computer science at the University of Illinois from 1953 to 1992, later becoming an emeritus professor. Additionally, he was an assistant professor at New Mexico State University from 1995 to 2008. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1947 and his Ph.D. in physics in 1951 from Caltech. Muller is known for inventing the Muller C-element and creating Muller automata, as well as for the Muller-Schupp theorem in geometric group theory.
