David Abramovich Gilichinsky was a prominent Russian biologist and cryolithologist, born on February 25, 1948, in Chișinău. He earned a Doctorate in Geological and Mineral Sciences and was a professor as well as the head of the Laboratory of Geocryology of Soils at the Institute of Physical, Chemical, and Biological Problems in Soil Science of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He held this position from 1989 until his death on February 18, 2012, in Pushchino, Moscow region.
