David H. C. Read was a Scottish Presbyterian clergyman and author, known for his long tenure as Senior Minister at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City from 1956 to 1989. He served as the first Chaplain of the University of Edinburgh and as Chaplain to Her Majesty the Queen in Scotland. Read was a World War II veteran, taken prisoner by the Germans while serving as Chaplain to the 51st Highland Division. His book 'Prisoners' Quest' documents his experiences in POW camps.
