David John Cawdell Irving (born March 26, 1938) is an English author known for Holocaust denial and writings on World War II history, focusing on Nazi Germany. His notable works include 'The Destruction of Dresden' (1963) and 'Hitler's War' (1977). Irving controversially claimed Hitler was unaware of the Holocaust. By the late 1980s, he became increasingly recognized as a radical Holocaust denier. In a failed libel case against historian Deborah Lipstadt in 1996, a judge concluded that Irving had deliberately misrepresented historical evidence to promote Holocaust denial and had a longstanding association with anti-Semitism.
