David Kelly was a British Ministry of Defence employee and expert in biological weapons. He served as a UN weapons inspector in Iraq, visiting 37 times between 1994 and 1999. Born on May 17, 1944, he started his career in agricultural science, eventually becoming head of microbiology at the Chemical and Biological Defence Centre. From 1984 to 1992, he led the microbiology division at the UK Chemical Weapons Research Centre at Porton Down. Kelly worked as a senior biological warfare advisor for the UN in Iraq and later joined the Ministry of Defence.
