David Thomas Kemp is a British physicist and professor at the UCL Ear Institute in London. He obtained his BSc in 1966 and PhD in 1970 from King's College London. In 1978, he discovered otoacoustic emissions, a phenomenon valuable for detecting hearing defects, particularly in infants. Kemp founded a company that creates equipment to measure these emissions. His work is significant for identifying neural impairment-related deafness, as it does not require cooperation from the subject. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2004.
