David L. Dilcher is a prominent American botanist and paleobotanist, renowned for his expertise in plant evolution. A retired professor from the University of Florida and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, he has pioneered research regarding the origins and success of flowering plants, establishing high standards in angiosperm fossil studies. In 2015, he, along with three other paleobotanists, discovered the oldest known flowering plant fossil, Montsechia vidalii, contributing significantly to our understanding of plant history.
