David L. Kaplan is an American biomedical engineer born on March 18, 1953. He completed his B.Sc. from SUNY Albany in 1975 and earned his Ph.D. from Syracuse University in 1978. Kaplan is the Stern Family Professor in Engineering at Tufts University and serves as chief editor of the journal Biomaterials Science and Engineering. He was elected a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering in 2003 and became a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 2021.
