David L. Preston is an American historian and professor known for his work on the conflicts between English colonists, Native Americans, and the French in North America. He has authored two award-winning books on the subject and has been the Westvaco Professor of National Security Studies at The Citadel since 2013. Preston graduated from the University of Mary Washington and obtained his master's and doctorate from the College of William & Mary. He began his academic career as an assistant professor at The Citadel in 2003, later becoming an associate professor in 2009.
