Rear Admiral David Ian Ledson, born on January 13, 1951, is a retired senior officer of the Royal New Zealand Navy and served as Chief of Navy from 2004 to 2009. He has a background in history and started his naval career as a cadet midshipman in 1967. Throughout his career, he held various positions, including Director of Naval Operational Data Systems and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff. Ledson was honored as a Companion of the Royal Society of New Zealand in 2009 and appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2000.
